Libya, located in North Africa, has a population of about 7 million people. Its people are called Libyans. The country is largely desert, with the Sahara covering most of its land, and the Mediterranean coast serving as the main hub for cities and trade. Arabic is the official language, and Islam—particularly Sunni Islam—is the dominant religion, shaping much of the culture and daily life. Family and tribal ties are very important in Libyan society, and hospitality is highly valued. Despite political challenges in recent years, Libya is rich in history, with ancient Roman and Greek ruins, and in natural resources, especially oil, which is the backbone of its economy.
